Wear Your Music is lucky enough to sell more than just beautiful, unique, handcrafted fashion... but we get to do all that with the help of some outstanding artists. In our first Artist Feature, we want to share Bonnie Raitt with you! Her guitar string bracelets are just as rocking as she is, with 100% of the profits going to the Rhythm & Blues Foundation, which she co-founded in 1988. All of her bracelets are made from donated strings Bonnie, herself, has played through.
Bonnie is as known for her lifelong commitment to social activism as she is for her music, being involved for over 40 years! She's always had a vast interest, and her activism is heroic in the environmental movement. She's done concerts around oil, nuclear power, mining, water and forest protection since the mid 70's, and was a founding member of MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) which produced the historic concerts, album and movie NO NUKES and continues to work on the nuke issue as well as fighting to preserve our Ancient Forests. Bonnie works on issues of social justice and human rights, health benefits, royalty reform and music education. ...Oh, did we mention she's a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose unique style blends blues, R&B, rock, and pop- and has held up music-style traditions since her entrance to the scene many moons ago?
Bonnie Raitt's activism could almost outshine her musical talents were it not for her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, or her guest appearances on over 100 album projects. Bonnie's releases, connection to her fans, openness about her own life and struggles- she took a break from touring and recording in 2009 after the loss of her parents and heavy tour to recharge and reconnect, and ability to make such amazing music in so many genres, keep her forever fresh in our minds. Performing with artists as varied as Cape Verdean singer Cesaria Evora, and legends B.B.King, Tony Bennett, and Willie Nelson, Bonnie's voice is far-reaching... always giving us something to talk about.
Her most recent release, Then & Now, includes 2 CDs, her 2012 Grammy winning "Slipstream" as well as her first career-spanning retrospective.
